Public Education

CFSID is dedicated to provide the public with a greater understanding of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and in reducing the risk of SIDS.   CFSID is involved in a number of public education initiatives. We publish newsletters, offer a resource library, mail-out literature packages, and develop instructional and educational videos. In addition, CFSID will arrange for individuals to speak to groups about SIDS and the steps to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Our primary target market is new or expectant mothers across Canada.  This demographic group comprises half of the population in their lifetime.  New or expectant mothers range in age from under 20 to 40+, and from every social, economic, and multicultural background throughout Canada including First Nations, Métis and Inuit.

Their commonality is the fear of finding their baby not breathing.

“I am 3 months pregnant and I was wondering if there is anything that I could do to help prevent SIDS before the baby is born?  I am so paranoid and afraid of SIDS!”    Christine, Age 27, Expectant Mom

Our secondary market is:

  1. At risk populations such as teens and aboriginal mothers who have 5 to 10 times greater risk of SIDS.  CFSID has developed and implemented a specialized program for teens called STEPS
  2. Alternate Caregivers; including fathers, grandparents, babysitters, day care workers and more.
  3. Agencies that work with families in the care of their infants such as public health, prenatal instructors, medical and health professionals, Family Services, Child Protection  Services and more
  4. Coroners, police and emergency first responders.

CFSID believes that education is the key to saving lives.  One consistent message for all of Canada so parents receive the same information from all, no conflicting messages is our dream.
