Peer Support

The Peer Support Program is a service that provides emotional support, information, discussions and contact with other families learning to cope with the sudden death of their infant. Peer support volunteers are trained and supported by the Foundation to provide support to other families by telephone and by one on one or group meetings.  When providing one on one telephone support to families, the CFSID makes every effort to match new families with experienced volunteers who are similarly suited by age, situation and time zone.  With over 40 CFSID Councils across Canada, support is usually available and support group meetings can be arranged.

Online peer support continues to be a popular choice and is offered on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.  This virtual support group meeting can be visited by families from across the country from the comfort of their homes.  Many find this option to be less intimidating.  You can visit for a few minutes or as long as you like.

Our Memorial Gallery offers families an environment to dedicate a remembrance to their child.

Many have included pictures, poems and links to their own websites.

“It was 11:30 pm when we went to bed.   At 1:00 am his dad checked on him and started screaming that he wasn't breathing.  He frantically called 911. At the hospital they tried everything they could to save him but at 2:15 am they pronounced him.”

“I just wanted someone to wake me up and tell me I was dreaming. It has only been two weeks since he died but I want to let as many people as possible know because I was one of the ones that thought it could never happen to me.” Jara, Aboriginal Mom
