SIDS and Pacifiers

Some research suggests that using a pacifier may reduce the risk of SIDS.

  • If breastfeeding, do not begin to give a pacifier until your baby is one month old to ensure breastfeeding is well-established.
  • Don’t worry if the pacifier falls out while your baby is asleep, and don’t force your baby to take a pacifier if he or she doesn’t want it.
  • Never coat the pacifier in anything sweet.
  • Never add a string or ribbon to the pacifier
  • Make sure you practice all methods of SIDS risk reduction
