What is a Council:
Definition: Council- When one (1) or two (2) or more local volunteers come together to work as a team/group, a Council can be formed. One does not need to have been touched by SIDS in order to be involved in a Council. However, to found a Council, the founding individual should be a SIDS parent, grandparent or someone similarly touched by the death of a child. Councils maintain the responsibilities of peer support, public awareness, and education and fundraising activities. Councils offer peer support to other families affected by SIDS. As peer supporters, you provide accurate information and emotional peer support to bereaved families. Please know that individuals can enjoy any level of commitment they are most comfortable with. Helping hands are always welcome regardless of the status.
Responsibility of Councils is multi-faceted depending on each Councils commitment.
