Bumper Pads
CFSID does not recommend the use of bumper pads because they pose a risk of strangulation, suffocation and entrapment.
Bumper pads were designed many years ago to prevent injury to a baby associated with the crib design or mattress not fitting properly. Today cribs and mattresses are designed for safety and bumper pads are no longer necessary.
In fact, bumper pads have been associated with infant deaths and near miss suffocation and strangulation.
A pretty crib is not always the safest crib. Padding should not be used in a crib. CFSID does not recommend the use of bumper pads because they pose a risk of strangulation, suffocation and entrapment. Infant health and safety must be a priority not prettiness.
